Create Content With Purpose
Master video production, audio engineering, and multimedia storytelling — using professional equipment, guided workflows, and creative mentorship.
What You'll Do
In the Media & Digital Creation Lab, students learn the full production pipeline — from concept and scripting through shooting, editing, and publishing.
Students work with cameras, microphones, lighting kits, and editing software to produce professional-quality media projects. Every session is structured around a creative brief that gives students clear goals while leaving room for personal expression and voice.
The lab emphasizes purposeful content — storytelling that communicates ideas, documents experiences, and connects with audiences. Students don't just learn buttons and tools; they learn how to say something that matters.
Skills You'll Build
- Video production (planning, shooting, directing)
- Video editing and post-production
- Audio recording and podcast production
- Scriptwriting and storyboarding
- Lighting, framing, and composition
- Sound design and audio mixing
- Graphic titles, lower thirds, and motion elements
- Content strategy and audience awareness
Projects You'll Create
Real media projects that build professional production skills and portfolio-ready work.
Short Video
Plan, shoot, and edit a short video project from start to finish. Students learn camera operation, shot composition, pacing, and the editorial decisions that shape a viewer's experience.
Basic Edit + Titles
Take raw footage and transform it into a polished piece using editing software. Add titles, transitions, music, and sound effects to create a professional-quality final product.
Storyboard + Script
Develop the pre-production materials for a larger media project. Write a script, create a visual storyboard, and plan a shot list — learning the planning process that professionals use before cameras roll.
Privacy & Consent for Youth Content
The Ember Alliance takes youth privacy seriously. All media projects involving student images, voices, or personal stories are governed by clear consent policies. No student content is published, shared online, or distributed outside the program without explicit written consent from parents or guardians. Students learn responsible media practices alongside technical skills, including digital citizenship, consent awareness, and ethical content creation.
Who It's For
The Media & Digital Creation Lab is open to all youth regardless of prior experience. Whether a student has never held a camera or already has a collection of videos on their phone, our mentors meet each participant where they are and help them develop professional-level skills.
Programs are available for elementary, middle, and high school students, with projects and equipment access adapted for each age group.
No Experience Required
You do not need any background in video, audio, or media production to join this lab. Every program starts with the fundamentals and builds progressively. All cameras, microphones, lighting, and editing software are provided on-site. Trained mentors guide every session, helping students find their creative voice and develop confidence behind and in front of the camera.
Safety & Inclusion
Supervised & Supportive
Trained mentors are present during every session, guiding production workflows and ensuring all content creation follows ethical guidelines and consent protocols.
